Artist: “Punk Shy” DUMPE FRESH

A few months ago we dropped an exclusive interview with actress, singer & songwriter, “Chey.N”, and she told us about “DUMPE FRESH” – “it’s like Bape but on some nexxxt level shit”… I got a lot of responses from people wanting to know more about the hot new clothing company out of France. So I linked up with “Punk Shy”, one of the designers of DUMPE FRESH to discuss the launch of the company. Shy is also a producer and an artist to BMG and “Royal Produkshun”. We sat down to discuss his new projects and the meaning behind the name, DUMPE FRESH…

ThatsHipHop: Aight, so I’m here with Boy Shy aka Punk Shy aka Shyn$… Let’s start off by telling everyone… who is Punk Shy?

Punk Shy - DUMPE FRESH: I’m an artist, writer, & songwriter who works in the fashion industry and whose passion is skateboarding.

THH: How did you get the name Punk Shy, cuz recently it was “Boy Shy”, and I’ve seen your pictures, you’re not “shy”, lol.

Shy: To tell the truth my aka is Shyn’s, and that’s pronounced «Shyness»…«Shyn» for shine and shyness for my other side who is a lil bit shy. It really represents my 2 sides, one part really calm and the other part really excited at times. And «Boy» is just an aka, now that I don’t have breads no more, call me “Punk Shy”, héhé.

THH: haha..You’re in France right now, were you born and raised there?

Shy: Yea. I was born in France and my background is Italian and Spanish. The music scene in France is really good. We have some pretty good artists over here.

THH: Let’s move onto something I’m excited about, “DUMPE FRESH”, tell us about it.

Shy: We created Dumpe Fresh 2 years ago… Mellow, Sully & myself. Today we are more like an independent brand where you can find a mix of our 3 worlds…Rock, Rap and Electro.

THH: And in case people are wondering, what does Dumpe Fresh mean?

Shy: “DUMPE” comes from the English word Dumper truck, like the trash truck used to fill with gold ingots (metal material) & “FRESH” for the money, the hunger of success & the fresh for our style.

THH: Where can people get it?

THH: How’s it going so far for Dumpe Fresh as far as how people respond and items selling out….

Shy: We have some styles that we don’t have any more in stock. You could say that the clothing line is really working pretty well for a beginning.

THH: Do you have a favorite article of clothing or item in the Dumpe Fresh line?

Shy: Yes I do… the Dumpe Skate & the Sweat Pardus!

THH: And getting back to you Shy, how’d you get into hip hop and fashion?

Shy: The music has always taken an important place in my life. My father is a musician (rock) he plays a lot of instruments. I was raised with music and I always try and do some. So hip hop came naturally, it was a logic link .

THH: When did you first take it to a more professional level?

Shy: I first began producing in 1996, so it’s going on 12 years since I first produced.

THH: And you do most of your own beats and production?

Shy: Yeah mostly… I also work with other different people, like guitarists, and drummers to have an acoustic touch to my compositions.

THH: Have you been able to produce for anyone in particular?

Shy: I produce for a lot of French artists. I also had the opportunity to do a track for Snoop Dogg who has recorded when he came to Paris for a show.

THH: Any collabo’s with anyone?

Shy: No, not yet but it’s scheduled for my album. I’d like to collab with international artists.

THH: What is it that motivates and influences you?

Shy: My main influences are really the punk style, the rock and electro. I do a mix of everything from those styles and make it to have my own style. And what motivates me is that I want to constantly create something new.

THH: You’re currently signed to BMG, and what’s “Royal Produkshun”?

Shy: “Royal Produkshun” is the musical label of Sully where I am signed as an artist and this label goes in part with Universal BMG… where I signed to have more opportunities.

THH: Do you have a current touring schedule?

Shy: Yes, in China in September and some dates in Vegas in October and also a tour in U.S. and Europe in November.

THH: Have you done any music videos or have plans for any music videos?

Shy: Well, I have participated in some dvd’s, some t.v. shows… but it’s in my future projects to do some videos.

THH: What else are you working on right now?

Shy: I’m working on my album which is going into different directions… really rock rap and electro. It’s a project that’s really important for me because it really shows who I am and can’t go in another category known. It’s gonna be some “punk shy shit”.

THH: LoL yeaaa, and is Myspace the best spot for people to go to stay up to date?

THH: Ok, so back to Dumpe Fresh… Chey.N described it, i believe, “like BAPE but on some nexxxt level shit”…. Haha, I love it! Tell me about the styles/designs…

Shy: Sully has already a big experience in this field. He’s already had a streetwear brand that exploded at the end of the 90’s called “ROYAL WEAR”…Myself and Mellow finalize the styles on illustrator and/or photoshop. So the 3 of us all work together to explode and mix our ideas. The common points between Bape and Dumpe is really the colors but outside of this, DUMPE does more rock style stuff less large than Bape and has the influence lots of music styles… hip hop and beyond. Mellow is really taking care of the designs. He is really brilliant in this field. We work together, all 3 of us every day to explode our different ideas, to go further and to also first of all be satisfied!

THH: Do you have a favorite color??

Shy: Yeah black….

THH: Black!? lol, Dumpe Fresh is so vibrant tho! Haha, black is my fave color too…How about any final shout outs?
