Janet Jackson blames Dr. Conrad Murray for her brother’s drug-related death, but Janet also says that Michael was in denial about having a drug problem. In her interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts last night, Janet said she and her family confronted Michael about his drug abuse “a few times,” but they “weren’t very successful.” (see -00:45 on the clip)
Roberts asked Janet how Michael reacted to the family’s attempted interventions and Janet replied (see -00;22): “He understood that it was out of love because of caring. But when it’s something like that, people can tend to be in denial.” Roberts then asked if Michael was in denial and Janet said, “Possibly. I wish he could answer this question for you and not me. I felt that he was in denial.”
Janet talked about how close she and Michael were growing up and said that the thing she misses most about Michael is “his silliness” and how much fun they always had. (-02:03 on the clip)
Janet also spoke about her upcoming book, True You, which recounts her lifelong struggle to manage her weight. Janet said that she has a better handle on her self-image these days, after years of “just picking yourself apart all the time because you’re so used to being kind of picked apart.”
By the way, Janet said that she has not seen This Is It and doesn’t know if she will ever watch it.
Janet Denies Being Back with Jermaine
Forget marriage. Forget anything, apparently, because Janet Jackson is denying that she and Jermaine Dupri have reconciled. The most recent rumor is that the two were planning a wedding for sometime next year to bring joy to the Jackson family after Michael’s tragic death. Jermaine recently denied that rumor but never said anything about him and Janet not being a couple. Well, Janet’s put the rumor to bed (until next week) by telling a DC radio station that they’re friends, but that’s it. “We are not together but are the best of friends,” she said.
