  About calicurls
Corrine Panisi - I was born in San Francisco, California in June of 1979. My mother was 18 years of age when I was brought into the world. Living in the Mission District of San Francisco and raising a little girl by herself was not easy for my mother. Shoot outs, prostitution and drug trade where real big in the late 70‘s. By the age of 5, my mother felt it was best for me live with my father in the south bay.

My father was, is and always will be a great man! If not for my father, I wouldn‘t be the woman I am today!

My father was strict, traditional and set in his ways. I grew up in a house where my thoughts and opinions were not a subject. I did what I was told and that was that.

I knew that there was some way to still be obedient, respectful and to be able to express myself, that‘s when I began to write!

At the age of 10, one of my aunties gave me a book of poems written by Emily Dickinson. I enjoyed the book, but couldn‘t relate to it - it‘s amazing to know that I‘m now compared to Emily Dickinson. I started reading Maya Angelou and Pablo Neruda it was then that I said to myself I can write poetry, I can express myself like that.

When I was 13, I started to enter poetry contests - I got rejected a lot! I never stopped sending my poems in, the rejections made me giggle.

I would say to myself: someone is looking for what I write and sure enough someone was!

In 2000 I entered a poetry contest for Digital News and Media, based in Texas. I won the contest and my poem was posted on the website. The editor-in-chief, Victoria Freudiger loved my work she writes: Corrine‘s genius pen crafting of words in her poetry will allow the reader to see inside her heart and soul. She has a smooth Emily Dickinson style that comes to a gentle and loving conclusion.

I started writing more poems, I would save them, and would write on anything I could find: register tape, paper bags, menus, I even cut up a cereal box once so I can write on the inside! I used eye liner, color crayons, markers, lipstick – hey when the inspiration comes to you –you got to get those words out!

I saved 50 poems – it was like putting up money for that one thing you just had to have! My editor suggested that I put my poems in a book.
There were 2 other writers that also had poems, so we put them all together and in 2003, Three Glances of A Soul was published! You can find Three Glances of A Soul through: http://www. amazon. com and http://www. entrywaypublishing. com.

I landed a job as a Contributing En ditor for Poetry Highway: http://www. poetryhighway. com and a whole page on the website was reserved for my work. The page was titled: Corrine‘s Corner. I would write a article every month suggesting different ways to write and people would respond! All the while I never stopped writing. My inspiration came from my life – the things I would see the wonderful people that I kept company and their lives.

In 2004, I came up with this idea that I was going to publish another book, this time as a sole author. I wanted the book to have meaning, so one day I was with a friend and we were in San Francisco walking and it came to me! I told my friend I‘m going to title the book: Painted Toes. The significance would be: as we walk through life, the many things and people we are inspired by gives us color.

I put together my poems for the book and went through the editing process and in 2006, Painted Toes was published!!!

As we mentioned earlier, Corrine is back from her hiatus and she is more creative than ever before. Her skills have increased and so has her drive to succeed. Digi-Tall is committed to helping her do just that. This book of poetry is a masterpiece unlike any we have ever read. Painted Toes is a book of illustrations and poetry that describes a special friendship and it maps this friendship out and paints a picture of how the relationship twisted and turned through time... still to be special today. For those of you who enjoyed Three Glances of a Soul, you have a treat coming your way! Victoria Freudiger.
