It‘s Young Prince!!!There are two sides to the city of Chicago. One side is a beautiful city filled with prized landmarks and scenery. The other side is the ’Hood”. Just like in every other city, there are people that experience pain and struggles as well as the positive. These struggles that are seen are and endured can include drug trafficking prostitution and gang violence and or activity. Enter the world of “Young Prince”. Gregory “Young Prince” Cherry was born on February 27, 1986, to Debra Mix and Thornton Cherry. Coming up, “YP” experienced hardships which in turn forced him to mature at a young age. His father left the home due to a drug addiction. As a result, his mother was forced to work long hours, which left no time for him. He began to explore the ups and downs of the ‘hood‘ firsthand. “My pops was on drugs when I was a kid. He would lie to me and steal from my mom just to get high.“ As if that wasn’t enough, he lived in a home where his uncle was also on drugs. “YP” had to virtually grow up without a father figure. From time to time he would hustle. The only male figures in his life were pimps, dope dealers, and thieves. With the mother working from 7 to 7, this made it easier for him to entertain this kind of lifestyle. Once his mother gathered enough money to move “YP” to a better situation, she took advantage. She moved him towards the Marquette Park area. He attended Hubbard high school where he graduated in 2004. He then attended Kentucky State University, but returned home after a semester due to problems at home. While going through these problems, one day he picked up a pen and started writing lyrics. He described his life in retrospect, all the things he had been through, all the things he had seen and heard. Still working thru his first full year of writing, Young Prince has managed to create a library of well over 35 songs. As his library grew larger, Young Prince noticed something else that grew, his confidence. As he noticed his confidence level rising, he paired that with his skill level and is preparing to release his first mixtape entitled “First Impression”. He chose that title because he feels that the 1st impression lasts a lifetime and that is how long he wants to last, a lifetime. |
